Pinder
Where riders make a match
The hardest part of entering an endurance race isn't the bike or the budget: it's finding a team. Pinder is the rider market we built inside GRIP Club. Riders make a card, open their pack and like the riders they'd race with; when two like each other, it's a match.
Five ducks in the deck. Their cards are in Spanish, like the app.
May contain traces of duck How it works
From signing in to a full team, without anyone posting a phone number.
-
Sign in
With Google or an email. Pinder has its own area inside GRIP Club, apart from team registrations.
-
Make your card
Four steps: profile, bike, stats and about me. Each stat is picked by a phrase, from “I'm here to learn” to “I make the difference on track”.
-
Open your pack
The card is drawn in the browser and revealed with a pack opening. Try it at the top of this page.
-
Browse the market
Every rider's card, in a grid on a computer and in a deck you swipe on a phone. Like the riders you'd race with.
-
Match
When two riders like each other, both get an email with the other's WhatsApp. Phone numbers never appear in the market.
-
Form a team
A team starts from a match and grows: riders ask to join, the team invites someone, or the organisers fill the gaps by affinity.
A card that reads like a rider
Six stats (commitment, initiative, attitude, mechanics, control and pace), each scored from 60 to 100. The overall rating is their average, and an engine of 25 archetypes gives every card its title, from “Team captain” to “Mechanic with a race number”.
- Two green flags and a note of up to 180 characters
- Every card has the same size, whatever the photo or the name
- Rarer cards glow a little more, on the card and in the reveal
- Saved as an image, to share on WhatsApp and to send in the match emails
The pack, frame by frame
We brought the app's own code to this page, so the pack opens here exactly as it does on gripclub.events.
One continuous envelope
The envelope on the page flies to the centre on a single spring, squashes, shakes harder and harder, and rips open in a burst of light.
Rarer cards hit harder
The rating drives it all: a longer charge, a stronger shake, more sparks, warm gold among the green and a brighter glow behind the card.
The pointer is the light
Once it's out, the card tilts on a spring and a white shine follows your pointer, like a foil card under a lamp.
Light on phones
On touch screens the blur, the heavy shadows and the tilt are dropped, so even modest phones keep a smooth frame rate.
Accessible
Keyboard focus stays inside, Escape closes it, a live region reads out the result, and reduced motion gets a calm crossfade.
Made to share
One tap opens the phone's share sheet with the card. Where sharing isn't available, the image downloads.
A product of its own
One website, two products.
Pinder shares GRIP Club's website and sign-in, and works as a product of its own: its own area, its own market, its own emails and its own launch switch. We designed it, built it and run it, like the registration platform it sits next to.
A launch switch
Pinder goes live with a checkbox or at a scheduled time, without a deploy. While it's off, its pages and APIs stay closed.
Moderation
Cards appear in the market straight away. The organisers can hide or remove any card, and riders can withdraw their own.
Private by design
Phone numbers never reach the market: they only travel in the match email, to both riders, with a copy to the organisers.
A graph of matches
The organisers see every like and every match drawn as a graph, and send re-engagement emails they preview and test first.
Tech stack
The same serverless base as GRIP Club, plus the animation and image libraries behind the pack.
